Group History

Welcome to the Tendring Ramblers website. The Tendring Group was formed in 1991 when it was decided to separate from the Colchester group. Tendring is in North East Essex. It extends from the River Stour and the Suffolk/Essex county border in the north, to the coast and the River Colne in the south, with the coast to the east and the town of Colchester to the west. Towns in the district include Frinton-on-Sea, Walton-on-the-Naze, Brightlingsea and Harwich. Large villages in the district include St Osyth and Great Bentley.

We try to cater for most walking abilities by offering regular weekly walking on Sundays and Thursdays. Walks are usually between seven and ten miles long with the occasional of eleven to fourteen miles. We also try to organise shorter half-day walks of a gentler pace on a Thursday of around five miles, depending on the availability of a leader. Most of our walking is in Tendring and the surrounding areas which include the Dedham Vale (Constable Country) and Suffolk. Occasional walks also take place to the north and west of Colchester, as well as in Suffolk.

Dog LogoDogs are not allowed on any walk with the exception of registered assistance dogs. Assistance dogs under the Disability Equality Act (2010) are hearing dogs, guide dogs, service dogs, therapy dogs and seizure alert dogs.
