Tendring Ramblers Group
The Tendring Rambles Group was formed in 1991 when it was decided to split the Colchester Group into two. The following are extracts from the minutes of committee meetings.
On 19th February 1993 the Chairman reported that town-twinning arrangements were well in hand. This year’s event would take place in September. Luxury coach travel to Valance in France plus entertainment, which would include walking, had been arranged. The Chairman also reported that membership of the Tendring Group had reached 104.
The secretary reported she had received a lot of correspondence from Head office (some things never change), which had either been delegated or dealt with by her. A ‘Family Ramble Day’ would be held in June and ‘Woodland Walks Day’ in September.
The Rambles Secretary reported she had volunteers to lead a walk for nearly every Sunday in the next programme. Future events discussed were a Strawberry & Cream Tea and a Bar-B-Que. The feasibility of Badges and Tee Shirts was discussed together with the idea of having a calendar printed.
At the committee meeting held on 17th June 1993 the Chairman reported that a quiz evening held by N.W. Essex Group went well.
It was agreed to order 100 badges. (We still have some left) The Tee Shirt idea was dropped due to cost.
The Secretary reported ‘there is still volumes’ of paperwork being sent from the R.A. Head Office’. It was felt most of it was of little relevance to the group. It was agreed to continue with the monthly pub meetings as these quite often encouraged new members. Dates were arranged for the Strawberry & Cream Tea and the Bar-B-Que. A group holiday in Hampshire was discussed together with arrangements for a Christmas Dinner at the ‘Maids Head’, in Thorp le Soken.
